LETTER OF THE WEEK - P…WOW! Polar Bears, Penguins, Puppets, Polar Ice and Pizza, what a great week. Pizza, Pizza, Pizza! We took a SURVEY and the survey said more kids preferred pepperoni over sausage. Every kid loves to cook and bake. Thank you for letting us ‘fill’ them up with Pizza and pudding. THEY LOVED IT!

LITERACY - We read several stories about penguins, polar bears. We also read the “Just Say Please” story by Gina and Mercer Mayer. Everyday we discuss how important it is to use words like please and thank you. We talk about how it makes others FEEL when we use kind and loving words.

LITERACY/MUSIC - Patterns…..listen to the patterns in the music. We clapped and stomped our feet to the beat. Patterns, patterns, they are everywhere.

CRAFTS AND MEDIA – We made patterns, put puzzles together, made pizzas and created puppets for a play.

Insight to our preschool Day………. Curious as to what happens when you drop off your little darlings? Here is a BRIEF explanation about two parts of our day:

PLAY TIME/FREE PLAY….We cannot emphasize the importance of PLAY TIME. Free Play time in the classroom gives us the opportunity to observe how the kids interact with each other. It gives them time to use their imagination and challenges them to grow as independent thinkers and learners. They learn to share and cooperate with their friends.

MORNING CIRCLE/MORNING MEETING………Morning Circle time is another piece of the puzzle. During our morning meetings we pray, say the Pledge, do the calendar, read, and use this time to let the kids ASK questions about topic of the day. All of the above requires the kids to learn THREE VERY BASIC skills. They are all learning to STOP, LOOK and LISTEN, some of life’s basic skills.

Next week we will take a look at centers, and why it is important to have these as part of our preschool day.
