Theme: Volcanoes and Earthquakes
We discussed how volcanoes start far beneath the earth. The heat and pressure inside the earth make volcanoes and explode and erupt. Hot ash and lava pour out and cover everything for miles around. After many years the ground around the volcano site will slowly show signs of life. New vegetation and other signs of life will begin to POP UP!
As a class we built a volcano with play dough. We added baking soda, red food coloring and vinegar to imitate a volcano erupting. It drew great oohhs and aahhhs!!!! Try it at home!
LITERACY: The classes have been looking at many science books about rocks and minerals. The earth is a fascinating subject to study. We have related the earth and its characteristics and how we are one of many planets that revolve around the sun. They all love the adventures of the Magic School Bus and their fascinating teacher Ms. Frizzle. She takes her class on so many adventures; the Moon and to the Center of the Earth to name a few.
MATH: The Butterflies (4 and 5 year olds) have requested doing math problems! We take turns at the dry erase board and on our clipboards. the Caterpillars (3 and 4 year olds)
Are counting the cars, trains, and vehicles they line up on the road and railroad track.
MUSIC: We are listening to songs that help us listen and follow directions

RELIGION: The children love the Bible stories we read every week and spring is the perfect time to talk about the wonderful gifts God has created. This season reminds us that things are GROWING all around us, just like Gods love and the loving choices we all make help us grow. The parables Jesus told are their favorites.
We are also talking about St. Patrick. St. Patrick was a priest who went to Ireland to serve the people. St. Patrick taught the Irish about The Trinity by using a three leaf clover. God, the Father, God, the Son, and God, the Holy Spirit.
